Protecting Your Family

In my opinion, the greatest enemy to the happily-ever-after of all married couples and of families in general is pornography.  There are many (many!) other things, to be sure, but pornography can blow a crater in your life that is not easily repaired — especially because those who have a problem with it seldom recognize that they do.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure…  I found this article timely and helpful for those trying to keep their families safe through the use of internet filters.

It’s interesting you used the phrase “blow a crater”… perhaps that was an allusion to Elder Holland’s Apr 2010 General Conference talk (http://lds.org/general-conference/2010/04/place-no-more-for-the-enemy-of-my-soul?lang=eng), wherein he states:

“Tragically, the same computer and Internet service that allows me to do my family history and prepare those names for temple work could, without filters and controls, allow my children or grandchildren access to a global cesspool of perceptions that could blast a crater in their brains forever.”

Note Elder Holland’s word selection: “blast a crater . . . forever.”

Yes, pornography (and its more sinister cousins) may be overcome and repaired. However, if permitted, it may also become an indelible, never repaired crater. Ick.

Thanks for the tip. We have a filtering service, but it’s probably time I check it out and make sure it’s doing its job.
