Meet the Smiths

Call me paranoid, but I enjoy a certain element of anonymity here.  I like to think it makes us all seem a bit exotic and mysterious… even if it is in reality simply annoying to those who know us & necessary for those who don’t.

Me – Anita Nap.
(My parents both liked the name Anita when I was yet to be born, so my pseudo-name here is a tribute to them. Fortunately, with a last name like Boye, they chose not to follow through with that one.)

Full-time wife & mommy, part-time blogger, writer,  reader, and piano player/teacher.  I have secret aspirations of directing a children’s choir.  Also serving as cook, clutter-eliminator, laundress, housekeeper -QUEEN OF THE HOME- for the following wonderful people:

My husband and love of my life – John.   Computer geek [not to be confused with "tech geek" -- he doesn't even have a cell phone any more!], avid learner, Master of space studies, father of the year, spouse of the century.

Outdated: As of July ’09, he’s also Bishop of the congregation we attend.  Hard to put into words how I feel about that… Wow is a good word for it, though.  (Wow is still a good word for how we both feel about the ~20 months he served as Bishop.  We will always have a special place in our hearts for those people and that chapter of our lives.
Updated: In the summer of 2011, John took a job teaching at a university in Hawaii.  Now he gets to teach and train a new generation of computer geeks and he’s loving it!

Together we have 5 children.  5 kids in 8 years… not bad…

Child #1 – Creativity, age 7 (as of April ’11).  Our first child and only daughter.  Queen Bee, Grand High Poo-Ba, and artist extraordinaire.   If she cuts her own hair one. more. time. though, I might have to…. well, let’s hope we don’t find out.

Child #2 – Doodle, age 6 in 11/2011.  The Gary Poppins of boyhood.  Practically perfect in every way.  Unless you try to make him eat something he doesn’t want to.  Like noodles with sauce.  Ewwww…

Child #3 – Eagle, 4 in 2/2012.  He loves dragons (especially “Toothless”), the color green, and being read to.  He’d sit on my lap and have me read to him alllll daaaaaayyy looooong if I could.   We’ve almost lived through his year of being three, Hallelujah!  Our move to Hawaii was the hardest on him, by far.  I *think* he’s almost over it.

Child #4 – Freedom, so nick-named because he was born on Constitution Day. Age 2 in 2011.  Super cute and fun.  He’s beginning to talk more now (finally!) and the tantrums are starting to lessen accordingly.

I love to hear him mimic words the bigger kids say, and watch him concentrate really hard when he tries to communicate something he wants.  2 is a magical age.

Child #5 – Gentleman (Gent for short) – A fitting name for his charming personality.  Born in March 2011.  He’s adorable.  Shows no interest in crawling yet, but he’s very social and gets mad if there’s nobody paying attention to him.  With this many people in the house, however, the situation is easily remedied.

And there you have it!

It’s a busy, loud, rambunctious crew here in Smithtopia – but we’re happy, too, and love being together.  We are grateful to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and try constantly to follow His example.

Hi! I made the mistake of posting a comment from an apolitical photoblog that I run – I’d be obliged if you would just delete that. I prefer to keep my photoblog separate online from my political blog. I’ve repeated the comment from *this* blog.

You have a very cute family, and I love your welcoming intro so I will leave a comment about it! Comments make me happy too. Your random pics are so cute, and I love the family photo on the header of your husband’s blog where you are all making funny faces.

Congratulations on baby #5. I have a suggestion for a blog name. How about “Giggles”?

Oh for cute! I hope he giggles a lot! :) A baby’s first laugh is something I pretty much live for.

That's a very good question.
I am happy to hear from you, thrilled to hear from you!, but I am also content to have you drop by, read a little, laugh a little, and move on quietly to whatever else you have to do. This is a guilt-free blog. ;)

Just a Reminder…

The Church is not a place where perfect people gather to say perfect things, or have perfect thoughts, or have perfect feelings. The Church is a place where imperfect people gather to provide encouragement, support, and service to each other as we press on in our journey to return to our Heavenly Father. ~Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, (May 2005 Ensign)

Why I Try

God expects you to have enough faith and determination and enough trust in Him to keep moving, keep living, keep rejoicing. In fact, He expects you not simply to face the future (that sounds pretty grim and stoic); He expects you to embrace and shape the future - to love it and rejoice in it and delight in your opportunities. God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers, and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can't if you don't pray, and He can't if you don't dream. In short, He can't if you don't believe.

~Jeffrey R. Holland, "This, the Greatest of All Dispensations"

"It is not for you to be led by the women of the world; it is for you to lead the...women of the world, in everything that is praise-worthy, everything that is God-like, everything that is uplifting and... purifying to the children of men." Joseph F. Smith, in this talk by Elder Ballard
