A Creation

by Mrs. Smith on February 20, 2012

From President Uchtdorf’s fantastic talk, “Happiness, Your Heritage”

“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul. No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before.

“Everyone can create. You don’t need money, position, or influence in order to create something of substance or beauty.

“Creation brings deep satisfaction and fulfillment. We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty –”

It is possible that John’s sock-turned-Toothless may not quite qualify as “something of beauty…” nevertheless, I’m tasting some satisfaction and fulfillment – even if those eyes are no where near placed the way they were supposed to be.  (boohoo!)

“AH!  It’s crooked!”
“He’s not going to notice, Dear.”
<frowny>
“Oh, so it’s not about him.  It’s about you.”
<grrrrr….>

It’s my first Stuffy.  Here’s hoping it doesn’t fall apart before his birthday is over.

I’ve loved brainstorming, planning, and making all kinds of crazy things for this soon-to-be-four-year-old’s birthday.  That creating high can be addicting, I guess  ;)

Or -equally likely- I’m trying to compensate for completely shattering this little boy’s world when we moved him over here last year.  I think he’s almost over it, 8 months later.  Maybe my making him something cuddly will help heal his little dragon-loving heart.

“If you are a mother, you participate with God in His work of creation—not only by providing physical bodies for your children but also by teaching and nurturing them.”

Thanks, Pres. Uchtdorf, for your words of inspiration and encouragement.  I love that talk on creating.

Each in our own unique way, I truly do believe that we all have within us the power to create things of substance and beauty.  Earlier this week I was noticing how every single woman I have ever known well has had this ability and touched my life with it.  Every single one.  None of them in exactly the same way as another, and none of them in absolutely every area of being.
None of us could achieve that – hello! – so why spend time worrying about how much better so and so does this or that?  Stop it!
So, if I know you well, I’m talking about you, thinking about you, and thanking you for inspiring me with who you are.

Especially you, Mom.  Thanks for teaching me how to thread a needle and follow through with crazy ideas of fun-ness.  :)  Oh!

Tell your hubby to send me his resume. They’ve been looking for a developer for months, though it’s possible it’s (finally) been filled, I’m not sure.
