That little boy is THREE with a vengance.
THREE, in case you didn’t know, is *the* year. It is the best of times. They go from an overgrown baby to being miniature big-kids. It’s an amazing transformation. Their personalities become more easily discernable. They learn more during that year than any year afterward. It is tremendously entertaining, inspiring…
and beyond exasperating. It’s also the year they change from the innocent two year old
“I’m doing what I want to do because I want to do it” to
“I’m doing what I want to do because I want to do it AND I understand what you want but I don’t care… so there!”
Mmm… Food for patience.
Doodle didn’t really hit “three” like his big sister did. (I’m still grateful she and I lived through that year and won’t need to repeat it, by the way.) Eagle, it seems, has a bit more of a spirited streak in him and I’m having to flex some mommy muscles I haven’t needed in a while.
It’s fun.
No, really, it is sometimes. Sometimes not so much. Sounds like parenting in general, huh.
Most of the time, Eagle and Freedom are buddies and get along well together. I love it. It reminds me of C & D when they were this age. I love them being close together. It’s such a blessing. The other day, though…
E & F were fighting over the vacuum. Boy, between the sound of the vacuum and the two of them screaming whenever they weren’t the one in control of said vacuum, it was loud. Freedom far and away has the louder voice and is the younger one, so at some point I wanted Eagle to give up.
“Eagle! Give it to Freedom! He’s only two…”
and then I had to stop and laugh at myself. The end of that sentence is, as all mommies know, “… and you’re ___.” [Fill in the blank with the older kid's age, right?] Well, Eagle’s only three! SOOO much more mature than two.
Right.
They’re both little. It’s a high-energy job being their mommy.
Freedom loves all things electronic.
Especially small hand-held devices. The camera is water-shock-proof (supposedly), so I let him walk around with it quite often. He’s only lost it once. I found it just this morning, thank goodness. Any guesses? Under the toddler potty. Nice.
I like the funny pictures I find after he’s been playing with it.
Little Gent
is officially a sitter-upper. So cute! He’s teething, too, with the customary bottom front two. I give it 2 weeks, tops. Or at least, I hope only two weeks! He’s just not himself with all this cranky hold-me-all-the-time stuff. He still has that adorable, long curl on the top of his head, but the rest of that beautiful newborn hair is gone.
The other night for family night,
we had the broken screen door open (the one with the screen totally flapping) and this little guy jumped in to join us!
Now that doesn’t happen every day!
When I told my sister that Mr. Smith now fits shirt-size Medium, she wouldn’t believe me and wanted proof.
Here ya go, Sissy. My handsome hubby.
“Mom,” by Freedom.
PS: Thank you, Auntie Lois, for the awesome nursing cover. It’s so cute!!!

ha ha, my 3 year old leaves fun pictures for us to find on the camera, including, one time, a picture of ME on the potty. Argh! Needless to say, I’ve been a little more strict about his access to the camera lately. Love the pictures and the updates, and happy your family is doing so well!
Looks to me like all John needs is a black plastic name tag and a bicycle. Perhaps some hair…
I am with you on 3! You were a joy! Maybe a little bit like E? “I HAVE to wear a dress!” and “I am NOT wearing a coat!” haha:) Wasn’t I on the phone with you during the just mentioned vacuum battle? We need to finish that conversation.
Good thing that camera is waterproof and shockproof. You should let the manufacturer know it is also Freedom proof
Love the pictures!
