We’re expecting our first houseguest tomorrow – so exciting! – and I’ve got the room all ready for her.
When you come visit us you can stay here too. Don’t worry – the frame is a futon frame, but the mattress isn’t.
It’s been like preparing for a visiting dignitary or something. I want everything to be just so – including, and especially, the satin pillow case & the feather pillow. As long as I can remember, there has always been The Satin Pillowcase for Gramsie when she comes to visit. All my growing up, that’s the way it was, at least 2x a year. Gramsie’s coming, get out the special pillowcase…
Well, Gramsie’s coming! When we planned her trip here over a month ago, what was my first thought? “Gotta find me a special pillowcase!” I had no idea where to find one, and was secretly hoping to get lucky at a yard sale or something of that nature. Weeks went by with no luck, and it wasn’t until just last Friday that the matter came to a happy ending.
We weren’t planning on buying a bed for the guest room. Nope. I sent Mr.Smith down to pick up a couch from someone moving off island, and he came home with said couches AND a bed! Yay! Now we don’t have to rent one from BYU Housing when we have visitors.
Oh, and yes, it’s super duper wonderful to have couches again. I shall never again take for granted a nice couch to sit on.
The satin pillowcases were like a gift from Heaven. They were there in the bottom of the third bag of bedding included with that mattress/frame. It was one of those tender mercies that let you know God is mindful of you – that He cares about it because it matters to you, even if it is just a little thing. One of the speakers in Conference talked about it Sunday.
(Remember the story about finding the quarter on the bike ride home? Wasn’t it so sweet?) I’d link to the talk, but the text isn’t up yet. Or is it? Let’s check. Nope, not in print yet. It will be soon, though.
Anyway, I’m sure the nice lady had no idea what it would mean to me that she threw in those pillowcases. John said she was just tossing stuff in bags, not really even knowing what size things were, etc. Having just moved myself, I remember that feeling. “I’m sure we don’t need this, and if you’re willing to take it, GREAT! One less thing I have to deal with!”
It’s just a wonderful, wonderful thing, so I thought I’d share.
But what about the feather pillow? Well, I folded up a feather throw blanket & shtuffed it in there. It works. I wonder if she’ll notice.
So! Come visit! Guest rooms are made for guests!

And I really like that Temple mirror in the background of the third picture!
Tender Mercies! Love ‘em! Like finding an ” I love you!” note on your pillow!
Someday, maybe I’ll get to use your guest room!
