Dear Smithlings,
Me & the little boys at the Hukilau beach watching the big boat from the PCC launch into the ocean. That was… uh… Friday? I think? Maybe I’ll post more pictures of that later. The bigger news ’round here is…. drumroll please…
THE STUFF CAME!
Wahoo!
It was a pretty busy, awesome day. I met a family across the circle from us yesterday; 8 kids, hard workers, nice folk. You Smithlings are going to get along quite nicely. They had Freedom all morning while the movers unloaded the truck, and then she sent her bigger kids over to help me unpack a bit (“Hi Sister Smith! Is there anything we could do to help?” Wow, can I keep you?) before having us over for dinner. (Enchiladas. Her recipe. So good.)
In the mean time (back when the moving truck showed up – am I jumping around too much?) another friend (from the department Mr.Smith will be teaching in shortly) came to help with the baby, who stayed asleep the WHOLE TIME with her there to rock his car seat & put his bink back in. Yes! Easy peasy!
I hate to even mention it here because I’m sure they’d rather me not broadcast it like this – but I wanted family and friends back home to know we’re being well taken care of here. I’ve seen so many angels flying in to help us get settled I’ve lost track, and I’ve got so many kind acts of service to pay forward I’m sure I’ll never run out.
- Who needs a couch when you could have a CASTLE?
- The Container on our Little Street
- The pile of packing paper begins.
- Our Hero — The kindly neighborhood baby watcher really saved both me and my next door neighbor who was moving in at the exact same time with a baby 13 days younger than Little Gent. Thank goodness for timely help!
- They piled it up in the living room before rolling, taping, and sending it back out.
- The neighbor’s truck took up the other side of Little Street! Funny timing, no?
- Neighbor’s Baby needed a little coaxing to go to sleep.
- And the pile grew!
- There it is!
- Yes, that IS our butter dish. Packed complete with butter – wasn’t that thoughtful of them? The paper around it was totally greasy, and the neighbor kid helping was dutifully grossed out by it. :)
- That’s our under-the-stairs closet getting filled with packing paper. There’s another neighbor kid in there somewhere. I had 5 of them here helping unpack the kitchen boxes. It was SO, so great having helpers like that. I felt like I had 10 arms. It was awesome.
- And then we made smoothies, ate string cheese, and had a party making a huge cardboard-box castle. A good time was had by all.
So there’s my lazy-man’s post about our move in today. Galleries are so much faster than one-by-one, sorry.
Love,
Mommy

Oh my, when I saw those palm trees, jealousy instantly crept up on me unintentionally. BEAUTIFUL!! And how nice is that that you guys had helping movers and that you have wonderful neighbors! I’m so glad! And oh, that butter? haha-icky! You guys are missed oh so much!
So glad you have great neighbors. It makes such a huge difference in a new place.
