Cool
“Cool” is what I thought when this happened the day after I posted about “listening.”
Errand completed, four kids almost ready for lunch, strapped in the car, and we’re ready to head home.
As I pulled out of the parking lot, I really felt like we should drop by the local thrift store.
Huh? Like I need any more junk? I don’t think so. Besides, with it being lunch time, the kids would be — um — difficult at best. Another stop seemed like a bad idea.
And yet, the feeling was pretty clear, and I knew I’d feel guilty if I didn’t follow through. Especially after that post.
So, wondering what fabulous find I was about to make and praying the two year old wouldn’t completely melt down, I drove on over. When I walked in with my crew, I could even tell exactly where to go in the store, and which way to get there. (No, not to the right. No, not to the outdoor-stuff. Gotta go to the books, and gotta go up the left aisle…)
Guess what I found!
No, not some screaming deal on some piece of junk I don’t really need anyway.
A neighbor!
Another across-the-street friend I wish I knew better. She’s got a little girl Doodle’s age, and I really enjoy chatting with her every time we see each other. You’d think we’d get together, plan play dates, etc… but in the years we’ve lived here, we’ve only managed to get around to it ONCE, and that was two+ years ago. Lately I’ve had her on my mind and really would like to have our kids get to know each other and play! Why is it so hard to just pick up the phone? Honestly. I’ve had a big bag of Creativity’s old clothes for her daughter sitting around the house for months…
But then I remembered, seeing her there, that said bag is *not* at home anymore! It’s in the back of the car! Sweet! We talked until Eagle’s melt-down mades it hard to hear each other (hahaha), left the store at the same time (I really didn’t need/want to do any shopping any way, remember?), and she got that blessed bag of clothes out of my hair. Hooray!
What a lovely little “coincidence.” I’m glad I listened.

Yay!
