Flowers in D

C is in hot pink, standing, middle-ish, right

When I signed my kids up with a small dance studio (or group, rather, so I thought) for homeschoolers, I had no idea the quality was comparable to… well, let’s just say that when the recital came together last week, I was impressed.  Very, very impressed.

This was no “small dance group” for geeky, withdrawn, uncoordinated homeschoolers.  This was amazing.

Instead of one class after another, like I expected with a end-of-school-year recital, they pulled everything together into a full-blown “ballet” of Alice in Wonderland.

I guess I should mention that I don’t recall ever having been to a ballet.  Nope.  Never seen Nutcracker.  Never been to anything like it, so this was a first of it’s kind for me.

They had interpretive dancers being “water” from Alice’s tears, they had a crazy jazz number at the Mad Hatter’s tea party, an awesome chinese-dragon-style Caterpillar, and pretty much every other main “scene” from Alice that comes to mind.

Knowing that all little girls would want to be flowers, that scene was rather extended to include all the ballet classes.  C’s class was combined with a few others, and danced to “Canon in D.”  Beautiful!

Here’s a little video-snippet:

The choreographers did a great job making sure the kids performed at their level, but in such a way as to get maximum impact out of it.  They really had a talented bunch of teachers working together.

I loved the little 3yo daisies dancing to “baby einstein” type classical music, and the “roses” (the most advanced ballet students) dancing to a very-spiffy arrangement of an aria from Carmen.

Those haughty roses were amazing, even if they were rude enough to shun “Alice” as a weed after she “tripped” and fell.

Words won’t do it justice, so I’ll stop trying and just say that I’m glad I got lucky enough to find this group.  For a daughter whose passion is dancing, this was a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Many thanks also to the folks who came to watch.  :)

That's a very good question.
I am happy to hear from you, thrilled to hear from you!, but I am also content to have you drop by, read a little, laugh a little, and move on quietly to whatever else you have to do. This is a guilt-free blog. ;)

Just a Reminder…

The Church is not a place where perfect people gather to say perfect things, or have perfect thoughts, or have perfect feelings. The Church is a place where imperfect people gather to provide encouragement, support, and service to each other as we press on in our journey to return to our Heavenly Father. ~Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, (May 2005 Ensign)

Why I Try

God expects you to have enough faith and determination and enough trust in Him to keep moving, keep living, keep rejoicing. In fact, He expects you not simply to face the future (that sounds pretty grim and stoic); He expects you to embrace and shape the future - to love it and rejoice in it and delight in your opportunities. God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers, and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can't if you don't pray, and He can't if you don't dream. In short, He can't if you don't believe.
