D’ya ever?

Have one of those days…

Where it takes you fully 30 minutes to just wake up because you spent all night consoling a sick/in-pain colicy baby?

Where you’re still in your PJ’s at 9:30?  (Ugh!!!)

Where your oldest boy FINALLY follows directions to get dressed for the day… when he changes into his Tae Kwon Do uniform for the class at 3:45?

When it seems like you spend the entire day putting out fires, but get nothing done?

For example…

The kids come rushing into the bathroom (where you were hoping to at last find 30 seconds to yourself.  It is a bathroom, you know…) to let you know that the 2yo broke ALL the eggs.  (Except the hard-boiled ones, of course, they are careful to mention.  Thanks.)

And while you’re cleaning up the mess, the baby wakes up hungry.

And the big  kids are picking fights with each other.

And the noise is REALLY getting to you, but it’s only 10am?

(at least he's cute, eh?)

And later, when you’re getting the kids in the car to take them to your fabulous sister-in-law’s (so you can borrow the truck to take the scenery from the dance studio to the high school’s theater – fun) and

you rush back in to get the sunscreen (because your kids are glow-in-the-dark white just like you)

but then you have to go rushing back out to the car when you hear  your daughter yelling,

“Eagle fell out of the car!  on his head!  on the cement!”

And sure enough, there’s a great big purple-y, spotty bump growing on his forehead, and you’re just grateful that it didn’t split open.

One of those days where…

Quiet-time was a joke, so you send them outside to play….

And the 2yo throws a huge rock at the 4yo and gives him a lovely little bruise on his eyebrow, and you’re just glad *that* didn’t split open either.

At this point you are seriously contemplating finding a straight-jacket in a child size two.

And then later it takes fully 2 hours to get the kids to be quiet in bed. What’s up with THAT?!  Oh yeah.  It doesn’t get dark until after 9pm.  I hate summer.

At this point you are seriously contemplating finding a straight-jacket in an adult Medium.

Grrr.

Question: Do I cave in and just move bedtime to 8:30 instead of 6:30 where it should properly remain?  Which weighs more?  The potentially wonderful hours to myself between 7-9pm & the rest I know they need, or the potentially mind-numbing, nails-on-chalkboard-aggravating, hour+ where they suck the life force out of me by not marching their obedient little behinds into their beds like good little soldiers?

Hm.

Or one of those days
where you have a weeks’ worth of serious, profound thoughts building into lots of blog post’s worth… on motherhood, The Element, education, marriage… not to mention the awesome little retreat last Saturday that never got blogged about… These things are on your mind all the time and you can’t wait to write it all out… but then you have

one of those days

and you’d feel like such a hypocrite writing about anything meaningful that

all you can do is turn out a long, rambly, whiny, stream of consciousness about

-yep-

one of those days.

Wow… FWIW, your 4 sound a lot more challenging than my 4, especially since i’m getting paid to watch 2 of them. Love and hugs! This too shall pass….

You are not alone! Though I’m sure 4 is harder than 1. I am amazed by how much you accomplish because I hardly feel like I can get anything done beside keeping up with the basic laundry, dishes, etc. and I don’t seem to be keeping up with that very well. I know the hypocrite type of feeling – I just want to assure you that one of those days does not a hypocrite make! You can be a stressed out and overworked person and an inspired creative person too. Now finding time to let the inspired person create more! If I could have a super power I think I’d want the ability to stop time – and I’d start it up again when my house was organized and all my projects were done. Ok, I know that sounds silly because you should probably use a power like that for more important things like saving people…but wouldn’t it be awesome!? Besides, moms have a role to save people in their own way… :)

That's a very good question.
I am happy to hear from you, thrilled to hear from you!, but I am also content to have you drop by, read a little, laugh a little, and move on quietly to whatever else you have to do. This is a guilt-free blog. ;)

Just a Reminder…

The Church is not a place where perfect people gather to say perfect things, or have perfect thoughts, or have perfect feelings. The Church is a place where imperfect people gather to provide encouragement, support, and service to each other as we press on in our journey to return to our Heavenly Father. ~Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, (May 2005 Ensign)

Why I Try

God expects you to have enough faith and determination and enough trust in Him to keep moving, keep living, keep rejoicing. In fact, He expects you not simply to face the future (that sounds pretty grim and stoic); He expects you to embrace and shape the future - to love it and rejoice in it and delight in your opportunities. God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers, and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can't if you don't pray, and He can't if you don't dream. In short, He can't if you don't believe.

~Jeffrey R. Holland, "This, the Greatest of All Dispensations"

"It is not for you to be led by the women of the world; it is for you to lead the...women of the world, in everything that is praise-worthy, everything that is God-like, everything that is uplifting and... purifying to the children of men." Joseph F. Smith, in this talk by Elder Ballard
