Mm-mm Good!

Let’s pretend all you had to eat at your house, day after day, was

dogfood.

Mmm...

Mmm...

Edible? Yes.

july 037Yummy? Definitely not!  You keep thinking that something’s wrong.  You try spicing it up, cooking it differently, serving it on different platters, but it just doesn’t seem right.

And then someone points out that the label on the bag says “dogfood,” and recommends you buy people-food on your next grocery trip.

Imagine that!

All these delicious foods, and you never knew!  Wouldn’t that feel great?  The next time you saw a plate of dogfood would you be tempted?

I should hope not.

Would it take a little while to learn how to cook real food?
Probably.

Would you beat yourself up for not being a culinary chef right away?
If you did, you’d be rather silly.

It takes a while to learn a new skill!  Go easy on yourself!

Would your kids immediately embrace the change?
Maybe.

Maybe not, though!  Eagle was mad as a hornet last summer when we wouldn’t let him keep playing in the dogfood at Grandpa’s house.

july 036Kids don’t usually like drastic changes, even the ones that are good for them.  Funny, some grown-ups are like that too.

Well, that’s kind of where I am right now.

What we had in our home really wasn’t working for us.  I felt outnumbered and I felt the need to outsource.  My kids were obviously happier, more obedient, and the atmosphere in the home seemed more peaceful without plugging them into movies… But if I didn’t, the house turned into a pigpen where you had to step carefully to get from one end to the other.  I hate that.

Like I said, it really just wasn’t working.

Before

Before

My eyes have been opened.  My house is changing.

After

After

My kids are adjusting.

Puppet shows are great.

Life is improving drastically, and more quickly than I could ever have hoped for.

Re-Learning Fun

Empty space,
make-believe-enhancing toys,
great books,
and the right tools are SO for me and my family.

Everything else is for the dogs.  Figuratively speaking, of course.

;)

That's a very good question.
I am happy to hear from you, thrilled to hear from you!, but I am also content to have you drop by, read a little, laugh a little, and move on quietly to whatever else you have to do. This is a guilt-free blog. ;)

Just a Reminder…

The Church is not a place where perfect people gather to say perfect things, or have perfect thoughts, or have perfect feelings. The Church is a place where imperfect people gather to provide encouragement, support, and service to each other as we press on in our journey to return to our Heavenly Father. ~Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, (May 2005 Ensign)

Why I Try

God expects you to have enough faith and determination and enough trust in Him to keep moving, keep living, keep rejoicing. In fact, He expects you not simply to face the future (that sounds pretty grim and stoic); He expects you to embrace and shape the future - to love it and rejoice in it and delight in your opportunities. God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers, and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can't if you don't pray, and He can't if you don't dream. In short, He can't if you don't believe.

~Jeffrey R. Holland, "This, the Greatest of All Dispensations"

"It is not for you to be led by the women of the world; it is for you to lead the...women of the world, in everything that is praise-worthy, everything that is God-like, everything that is uplifting and... purifying to the children of men." Joseph F. Smith, in this talk by Elder Ballard
