In Honor of a New Tradition

May 3, 2010

Now that I think about it, it’s only been a few weeks since my daughter’s 6th birthday.

Why does it seem like a few months?

Time is weird that way.

I promised to show you the poem I wrote for the occasion.

Here ya go.

:)

yippeee!

yippeee!

PS: Yes, you may alter this for your kid and use it in your no-presents-party invitations, too.  You don’t even need to give me credit!

Time is always weird, though ironically it’s “normal” to expect time to be weird. How do I mean?

Our natural frame of reference is outside of time, at least insofar as we measure time on Earth. Consider the nature of our Spirits: we are eternal beings, without beginning or end. As such, occasional quirks we experiences as unusually fast or slow “time lapse” are to be expected.

As for the poem, it is lovely. Too bad we never actually sent those invitations! :|

Hey, John, I did too send those invitations. Some of them. I think. At least a few of the hand-delivered ones made it to their destinations. :)

Oh. My bad. Glad we got those out… heh. :D

So cute! I love it. The font is really cute too – what is that?

      It’s… um… I’ll have to look it up. :)

So, I absent the blogging world for one (or two or three) weeks, and Mrs. Smith completely changes her blog layout *again*. Sheesh. I’m trying to keep up, but don’t be hurt if I miss a post. I don’t know if my brain works horizontal.

P.S. The poem is darling. Of course. (You wrote it. How could it not be?)

That's a very good question.
I am happy to hear from you, thrilled to hear from you!, but I am also content to have you drop by, read a little, laugh a little, and move on quietly to whatever else you have to do. This is a guilt-free blog. ;)

Just a Reminder…

The Church is not a place where perfect people gather to say perfect things, or have perfect thoughts, or have perfect feelings. The Church is a place where imperfect people gather to provide encouragement, support, and service to each other as we press on in our journey to return to our Heavenly Father. ~Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, (May 2005 Ensign)

Why I Try

God expects you to have enough faith and determination and enough trust in Him to keep moving, keep living, keep rejoicing. In fact, He expects you not simply to face the future (that sounds pretty grim and stoic); He expects you to embrace and shape the future - to love it and rejoice in it and delight in your opportunities. God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers, and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can't if you don't pray, and He can't if you don't dream. In short, He can't if you don't believe.

~Jeffrey R. Holland, "This, the Greatest of All Dispensations"

"It is not for you to be led by the women of the world; it is for you to lead the...women of the world, in everything that is praise-worthy, everything that is God-like, everything that is uplifting and... purifying to the children of men." Joseph F. Smith, in this talk by Elder Ballard
