More Than Words

I’ve been staring at the computer screen for quite some time now, trying to figure out how to put the Story of the Empty Bowl into words.

I decided something.

Don’t hate me for it.

That story, for now, will have to go unwritten.

The First Empty Bowl

The First Empty Bowl

It’s one of those things… A long story.  Had to be there.  Have to know a TON of background to really grasp the full meaning behind it.  Words will likely not do it justice, and it’s so special sacred to me that it would really hurt my feelings to have it misunderstood.

I wouldn’t have written a post just to tell you I’m not writing (how lame is that?!), but I mentioned it in a different post and I don’t want to leave you hanging, forever wondering “hey, what about the Story of the Empty Bowl?”

Sorry about the pictures.  Yes, more pictures of the house…  I just can’t get over that this is actually in my house, and *staying* like this:

(just wanted to show you the final, finished product.)

Hey! That empty vase looks just like the one in the Celestial Room in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple!

Silverware in mason jars! Hmmmm…I think I really love that! And, that is indeed a beautiful bowl. At women’s conference, our Stake President gave us a parable (given by a general authority) about a pearl of great price. This man wanted to display it and had a beautiful box made. He displayed it in the window, but in the end became very sad because he realized that people were more interested in the beautiful box than the perfect pearl.

I have thought about that parable ever since hearing about your bowls. If you were to put something in those beautiful bowls or vases, the item inside would be the focal point, not the empty bowl. Indeed, the emptiness is what makes it beautiful. Just had to share. Love you’re mom’s comment above ;) .

Yep, that story works here, too.

It looks so pretty! What did you do with all the extra stuff? Were you able to get rid of it right away or did you put it in a box in the basement to think about later like I always do?

That’s the amazing part! The stuff is GONE. For the most part. Truth be told, there’s a small basket on the counter holding those extra picture frames and some misc. stuff I need to deal with.
Aside from THAT, however, I am turning into a clutter-annihilator. :)

That's a very good question.
I am happy to hear from you, thrilled to hear from you!, but I am also content to have you drop by, read a little, laugh a little, and move on quietly to whatever else you have to do. This is a guilt-free blog. ;)

Just a Reminder…

The Church is not a place where perfect people gather to say perfect things, or have perfect thoughts, or have perfect feelings. The Church is a place where imperfect people gather to provide encouragement, support, and service to each other as we press on in our journey to return to our Heavenly Father. ~Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, (May 2005 Ensign)

Why I Try

God expects you to have enough faith and determination and enough trust in Him to keep moving, keep living, keep rejoicing. In fact, He expects you not simply to face the future (that sounds pretty grim and stoic); He expects you to embrace and shape the future - to love it and rejoice in it and delight in your opportunities. God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers, and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can't if you don't pray, and He can't if you don't dream. In short, He can't if you don't believe.

"It is not for you to be led by the women of the world; it is for you to lead the...women of the world, in everything that is praise-worthy, everything that is God-like, everything that is uplifting and... purifying to the children of men." Joseph F. Smith, in this talk by Elder Ballard
