Why I Should Get Up in the Morning.

If I were smarter, I would leap out of bed every morning at the crack of dawn.

To gleefully tackle a new day?
No.

Because I just LOVE waking up early?
Heavens, no.

Because I get restful, uninterrupted sleep all night?
Hahahaha… Very funny.

Because I just can’t wait to see those adorable faces and hear their charming voices?
Mm… I’ll get back to you on that one.

No, the reason I should get my little rear in gear is to prevent the chaos that happens when they sneak downstairs and have time to make their own creative breakfasts.

marshmallows, candy canes, juicey juice. under the piano.

I think it was three times last week my munchkins had sugar-loaded you-name-it, while Mommy slumbered away with the baby who sleeps solidly and reliably… from about 5am-8am.

(Yes, we hide our candy.  Yes, we child-lock our candy-hiding cupboards.  They’re just creative geniuses, that’s all.)

But not Friday.  Oh no.  Friday they had a nice, healthy breakfast.  Bananas, leftover pancakes, and the container of grated cheese.

In Cinderella’s already-messy room. With the 2yo out of his crib.

(Don’t ask me how they get him out.  Personally, I don’t even want to think about how they do that.)

I won’t tell you what a huge mess it was.  There’s still remnants on the stairs, in case you were wondering, because I just LOVE vacumming stairs, don’t you?

You know – you could make a scrapbook of just the culinary creations of your children. Chocolate chips and flour, candy, pancakes and cheese. But wait – that’s right – we don’t scrapbook. Okay – you could photobook it.

That is so funny! Gotta love the combinations kids come up with! Mine aren’t quite old enough yet to make mischief together, but I’m sure those days aren’t too far ahead of me! I’ll have to ask you, the seasoned, wiser parent, for advice on how you handle it. :)

Ah, indoor picnics. What can you say, really? They’re becoming independent and feeding themselves (which is always good in my book). Just make sure they ‘help’ clean up. That’ll teach them responsibility. Perfect, right?

That’s too funny! Cinderella’s bed looks like the one you had as a little girl, it probably is. :) And when you figure out how to get up earlier, let me know!

The two year old “helping” clean up is the reason for the cheese on the stairs. :\
But yes, I love that they (a) recognize they’re hungry now and (b) attempt to take care of it!
Oh, and (c) thus far haven’t hurt themselves or each other in the process.

Oh I have had a couple of those myself. I feel you sister. Thanks for documenting it for future posterity:)

We are living the same life! Except my kids go for the sharp objects and poison liquids. Even under lock and key. Makes you want to strangle all the “child safety lock” makers. All with a happy heart, of course. :) And maybe your 2 year old climbs out of the crib himself? Covert operations is what it’s all about!

Oh. My. Gosh. That is awesome and terrible at the same time. My DD has eaten markers and sharpies before and I thought that was bad, but oh dear, your little boy looks terrible!!! Wow, thanks for sharing these awesome pics.

That's a very good question.
I am happy to hear from you, thrilled to hear from you!, but I am also content to have you drop by, read a little, laugh a little, and move on quietly to whatever else you have to do. This is a guilt-free blog. ;)

Just a Reminder…

The Church is not a place where perfect people gather to say perfect things, or have perfect thoughts, or have perfect feelings. The Church is a place where imperfect people gather to provide encouragement, support, and service to each other as we press on in our journey to return to our Heavenly Father. ~Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, (May 2005 Ensign)

Why I Try

God expects you to have enough faith and determination and enough trust in Him to keep moving, keep living, keep rejoicing. In fact, He expects you not simply to face the future (that sounds pretty grim and stoic); He expects you to embrace and shape the future - to love it and rejoice in it and delight in your opportunities. God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers, and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can't if you don't pray, and He can't if you don't dream. In short, He can't if you don't believe.
