Smarter Than I Am
My kids, that is. Sometimes, that is.
Once upon a month ago…
they found a box of glass jars. Empty, clean, most of them with lids, waiting for canning season to come back again.
Well, okay. They’re waiting for me to find someone else who wants them, because really, we don’t can. No sense hanging on to these dumb jars when I won’t be using them. It’s time to stop pretending I need these.
Anyway, back to my story.
They found said jars, maybe 10 or so, and when I found the little sneaks, I thought to myself,
"Great. Another creative project."
If I had $1,000,000 dollars for every time I thought that in 2009, I could hire a nanny, a laundress, a maid, a cook, and move us all to some castle in Europe.
They filled those jars up with water and had them set up all over C’s room. (?!)
They could see the “?!?!?!?!” coming, and quickly reassured me,
“Don’t worry, Mom. We put their lids on.”
Oh, good. I feel so much better now.
(Actually, I did.)
I won’t tell you
"Alrighty! It's time to take these all downstairs. It really wasn't a very good idea in the first place."
Okay, so I didn’t say it quite that nicely. I may have even used the word “stupid” for the very first time ever when talking with my children. Yes, I felt guilty. No, I won’t do it again. This is my blog, however, and I reserve the right to artistic license when it comes to quoting myself.
Doodle looked at me patiently and said,
"But Mom, those are wishes!" "Wishes?" "Yes. We put a quoyter in, and made a wish!"
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Right.
I get it now.
And actually, that’s kind of a cool idea, don’t you think?

A clean house.
World peace.
Kids that don’t get stay sick ALL WINTER LONG.
The end.
Can you maybe convince them the water isn’t necessary? Because, well, wishes without water are much safer, cleaner wishes.
Let’s see. What would I wish for?
Strength to be who I need to be and to do what I need to do.
That about covers it.
Oooo…a new look. I hope some of their wishes came true. Did they get all the water from the bathroom? At least they are finding some ways to entertain themselves.
More than cool, that is brillant! I’m off to fill up large amounts of jars with water and start making wishes. Okay, I’m not because I have OCD and that would drive me CRAZY, but I love that your kids did it. Just don’t tell me kids please.
He he he… i see my oldest 2 becoming like your oldest… Miss E. tells mr E to come into the room with her to look for the cat, and HE ACTUALLY GOES WITH HER!! It’s the awesomest thing!
I would LOVE your canning jars, if we happen to make it out to Utah this spring. I’ve got plans for more pickles this year, more applesauce, probably peaches too, and beets… gardening in the midwest is awesome!
oh yeah, waht would i wish for? i feel pretty blessed to have most everything i need – oh, maybe plane tickets to visit family more often.
